To say the criminal law has become incredibly complicated in the past 20 years is true if not an understatement.
The complexity of criminal law is wrong. The purpose of the criminal law is to alert everyone - not just the very committed lawyer - what is and what is not permitted by society.
We have gotten to the point now where the only thing that keeps a person out of jail is law enforcement and / or prosecutorial indifference. If they want to put you or your loved ones away for a very long time, they can, no matter how innocent you or your loved ones think you are.
